SOYOUNG YOON (b. 1984) has established herself on the world performance scene with her successes at some of the most prestigious international competitions: Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition (2002), Georg Kulenkampff (2003); Tibor Varga International Violin Competition(2005);Moscow International David Oistrakh Violin Competition (2006),International Tchaikovsky Competition(2007), Queen Elisabeth Competition (2009), Indianapolis Violin Competition (2010, Silver Medal), International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition (2011, Gold Medal), Tokyo International Violin Competition (2024, First Prize). Specialist critics appreciate her talent, precision, refinement, temperament and charm. She arrived at these successes after serious professional training at the Korea National University of Arts in South Korea and thanks to the guidance of Zakhar Bron at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne and the Zurich University of the Arts. She has appeared as a soloist and inspiring chamber musician on the world’s podiums from London’s Wigmore Hall to Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional, from Zurich’s Tonhalle, the halls of Hamburg, Stuttgart, Edinburgh, Belfast and Manchester to the stages of Beijing. She has soloed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the German Radio Orchestra in Hamburg, the Prague Philharmonic and the Bremen Chamber Orchestra, under the batons of Krzysztof Penderecki, Ivor Bolton, Maxim Vengerov, Eiji Oue, Sascha Goetzel, Yi-Chen Lin and Michal Nesterowicz. She collaborates with the Korean Chamber Orchestra and tours with them throughout Asia, Europe and North America. She has served on juries for international competitions, including the Yehudi Menuhin Competition in Richmond and the Prague Spring Competition. She plays a J. B. Guadanini “ex-Bueckeburg”, made in Turin in 1773.
