MARIJA MIHAJLOVSKA

CELLO

Marija began playing the cello when she was 12 years old, in the class of Prof. Mare Kocharova, later completing her secondary education in the class of Prof. Paskal Karpovski. She graduated with the highest marks from the Faculty of Music in Skopje, in the class of Prof. Zhivko Firfov. In 2015, she completed her Master’s studies at the Faculty of Music in Skopje, in the class of the renowned Czech cellist Michal Kaňka.

Marija has been a member of a few international orchestra, such as Yunge Orchester Akademie in 2005/2006, touring Switzerland and the Balkans. In 2008/2009, she toured Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Romania with the European Orchestra CEIYO. In 2010 she performed in Berlin with the Young Euro Classic Festivalensemble, conducted by the famous conductor and cellist Heinrich Schiff. In 2016 she toured Denmark, Sweden and Finland with Orkester Norden, under the baton of the eminent conductor Lawrence Foster. Marija has performed as a soloist with the Macedonian Philharmonic in 2011 and 2014, as well as with the orchestras of the SMBC Ilija Nikolovski Luj, Faculty of Music and ARKO.

Marija is the recipient of numerous awards at competitions and has performed numerous recitals throughout the country. She has performed at the Skopje Summer Festival, organised by the Culture and Information Centre. She regularly performs with her twin sister Maja, in a duet called Twins Cello. In 2021 she marks 10 years as a member of the orchestra of Jeunesses Musicales Macedonia, regularly performing at the Ohrid Summer Festival. She has attended the cello seminars of Prof. Astrid Selita in Tirana for six years, and has also attended masterclasses with Imre Kalman, Alexader Kniazev, Venceslav Nikolov, Marc Coupe, Detlef Mielke and Johannes Moser. By invitation of the Artistic Director of the Ohrid Summer Festival, Gordana Josifova-Nedelkovska, Marija performed with the cellist Enrico Dindo in the closing concert of the festival in 2012. In June 2011, Marija was invited by Simon Trpcheski to perform with him at the Church of St. Sofia in Ohrid. She is a permanent member of the Macedonian Philharmonic since 2015. She regularly records film music with the F.A.M.E.’s orchestra. Marija is also a member of the Philharmonic Quartet.

In her free time, she loves to travel. Her hobbies are Pilates and shopping.
