IVAN BEJKOV

DOUBLE BASS

Ivan was born in 1978 in Skopje. He completed his secondary education, Bachelor’s and Master’s studies with honours, in the class of Prof. Velko Todevski. Even as a student and until today, Ivan works professionally in elite orchestras at home and abroad. He is an instructor of double bass, jazz bass and bass guitar in the school of Toni Kitanovski. Ivan has led masterclasses at higher education institutions. In 1997 he was a member of the East West Orchestra in Leipzig, Germany. From 1999 – 2001 he was a part-time member of the Macedonian Opera and Ballet. From 1998 – 2007 he was a part-time member of the Macedonian Philharmonic and was accepted as a permanent member in 2008. Since 2008, he is also a professor of double bass and chamber music at the Faculty of Music in Shtip. He has performed as a soloist with many different chamber ensembles and symphonic orchestras, including the Macedonian Philharmonic. He was also a member of the Mirche Acev ensemble directed by Pece Atanasovski for six years.

Ivan collaborates with many professional ensembles, performing music from different genres throughout the world: Project Zhlust, Toni Kitanovski Cherkezi, Toni Kitanovski Trio, Vlatko Stefanovski Trio… He has performed with eminent artists, such as: William Parker, Malcolm Burn, Damo Suzuki, Yoshiko Chuma, Greg Hopkins, Frank London, Teodosii Spasov…

Ivan has also performed at renowned festivals in Europe, Asia and the USA, including jazz festival in Berlin, Vienna, Paris, Rotterdam, London, New York…

He is the author of the music for the motion pictures How I Killed a Saint directed by Teona Mitevska and Magic Mystery Cure directed by Aleksandar Stankovski, as well as music for many documentaries and theatre plays.

He is the recipient of many awards for his creative instrumental work.
