Elisabeth Attl

    Born in Vienna, she began studying the piano at the Hochschule für Musik, performed as a soloist and with chamber music ensembles and made radio and television recordings for several years before switching to conducting and studying with James Moore (USA), with Michael Gielen (Salzburg) and with Leopold Hager (Vienna). Her first major engagement was as Assistant Conductor at the Vienna Volksoper in the 1998/99 season, where she made her debut conducting The Marriage of Figaro. Between 1999 and 2001 Elisabeth Attl was engaged at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where she assisted the General Music Director and conducted several performances of Lucia di Lammermoor, The Magic Flute, Un Ballo in Maschera, Turandot and others. She moved back to Vienna in 2001 and stayed at the Vienna Volksoper until 2009, conducting around 40 different Operas, Operettas, Musicals and Ballets, such as Carmen, La Traviata, Madama Butterfly, Die Fledermaus, Lustige Witwe among many others. Elisabeth Attl has been working with numerous European orchestras, among them the Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, Brandenburger Symphoniker, Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie and Orquesta del Gran Teatre del Liceu. In 2011, a special invitation brought her to work with the Montenegro Symphony Orchestra where she returned in the fall 2012 for a concert of 20th century Austrian Music. She has been working with the orchestra on a regular basis, mentoring young musicians and coaching more established ones. She has conducted at Kotor Arts Festival (2014), worked with the Albanian Radio Symphony Orchestra (2015) as well as the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra (2017).   In 2023 she started to work with the Vienna-based orchestra “Orchesterverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde” and became their chief conductor in 2024. Situated in the Vienna Musikverein, the orchestra is regularly performing in the renowned Golden Hall. Since 2021 Elisabeth Attl is teaching as Senior Artist at the Vienna Music University MDW.
