Betty Garcés

Betty Garcés Bedoya is the first Afro-Colombian performing a growing career as a lyric singer, specializing in Lied, Concert, Chamber Music and Opera at an international level. She graduated with distinction as a Master of Arts from the Superior School of Music of Cologne, specializing in Opera, Lied and Dramatic Arts, performing in venues around the globe, such as the Kennedy Center in Washington, Parco della Música in Rome, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Gulbenkian Hall in Lisbon, the Prince Mahidol Hall in Bangkok, the Cairo Opera House, the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, and Teatro Colón in Bogotá, amongst others. Betty is one of the Forbes Creative 2020. Honored in 2021 with the High Artistic recognition of cultural merit from the Colombian President and the Ministry of Culture, she earned 2020-2022 the RWLE Möller Stiftung special Emerging Artist Residence Scholarship in Germany. Her remarkable voice but also her story full of strength and worth is considered a representation of hope and inspiration for many, becoming an important benchmark not only for Colombian but also for Latin American singers. Betty was the artist who sang the Colombian national anthem during the emblematic presidential inauguration in Summer 2022, representing for many the struggles and victories of the Afro folk in the history of Colombia. She seeks to share her encouraging testimony with people in disadvantaged socioeconomic conditions, having founded the Activist, Artistic and Creative emerging Collective “Point of Difference”.
