MAJA MIHAJLOVSKA
CELLO
Maja started to play the cello when she was 12 years old, in the class of Prof. Mare Kocharova. She completed her secondary education in the class of Prof. Paskal Krapovski. She graduated with highest marks from the Faculty of Music in Skopje in the class of Prof. Zhivko Firfov. In 2012 she received the Frank Manning Foundation award as the best student of her generation. In June 2015 she completed her Master’s studies at the Faculty of Music in Skopje in the class of the Czech cellist Michal Kaňka. Maja has been a member of a number of international orchestras, such as Yunge Orchester Akademie, with which she toured Switzerland and the Balkans in 2005/2006.
In 2006/2007 and 2008/2009 she performs with the European Orchestra CEIYO, touring Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Romania. In 2016 Maja is a member of Orkester Norden, with which she toured Denmark, Sweden and Finland under the baton of Lawrence Foster. She appeared as a soloist with the Macedonian Philharmonic in 2006,2007,2008, as well as with the Orchestra of the SMBC Ilija Nikolovski Luh and ARKO. Marija is the recipient of numerous awards at competitions, has performed numerous recitals throughout the country at the Skopje Summer Festival, organised by the Culture and Information Centre. She regularly performs with her twin sister Maja, in a duet called Twins Cello. In 2021 she marks 10 years as a member of the orchestra of Jeunesses Musicales Macedonia, regularly performing at the Ohrid Summer Festival. She has attended the cello seminars of Prof. Astrid Selita in Tirana for six years, and has also attended masterclasses with Imre Kalman, Alexader Kniazev, Venceslav Nikolov, Marc Coupe, Detlef Mielke and Johannes Moser. By invitation of the Artistic Director of the Ohrid Summer Festival, Gordana Josifova-Nedelkovska, Marija performed with the cellist Enrico Dindo in the closing concert of the festival in 2012. She is a permanent member of the Macedonian Philharmonic since 2015. She regularly records film music with the F.A.M.E.’s orchestra.
She feels equally at home in the classical repertoire, but she also strongly breaks the frame of a classical musician. Maja is a member of the Bulgarian crossover quartet Destiny since 2019. She regularly performs with the quartet in Bulgaria and throughout Europe and has recorded two music videos until now.
In her free time, she likes to travel and watch Netflix. She speaks five languages and recently completed a course in Turkish language.
