ALEKSANDAR GOSHEV

THIRD FRENCH HORN

Aleksandar was born in 1970 in Strumica. He completed his primary education in his native Turnovo and his secondary education at the SMBC Ilija Nikolovski Luj in Skopje, in the class of Prof. Levche Trajkovski. After completing his secondary education, he continued his studies at the Music Academy in Novi Sad, in the class of the world-renowned French hornist and pedagogue, Prof. Ferenc Tarjani. While still a student, Aleksandar started teaching at the music school in Sremska Mitrovica in 1993. In 1994 he became a member of the orchestra of the opera at the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad. While a teacher of French horn in the music school in Sremska Mitrovica, he started his collaboration with Prof. Dubravko Maric, from whom he learned the preso playing technique for brass instruments, responsible for his success as a pedagogue.

Aleksandar continued his work in Sremska Mitrovica until 1995, where his students were awarded at many competitions, events and festivals. In 1994/95 he started working as a part-time teacher of French horn at the Music High School in Subotica. After the war, he returned to Skopje in 1999, where he began his work as a part-time teacher at the SMBC Ilija Nikolovski Luj. In August 2006, he was invited to give a seminar at the Music Conservatory in Oslo, Norway. Aleksandar is an Associate Professor of French horn, chamber music and orchestral playing at the Faculty of Music in Skopje since 2007.

While a student, Aleksandar started to perform solo recitals throughout the country, as well as chamber music performances with a brass quintet from the music high school. In 1987, he was awarded 1st prize at the national competition in Skopje, receiving the maximum number of points and was awarded 3rd prize later that year at the federal competition in Dubrovnik, where he competed with 35 French hornists from Ex-Yugoslavia. He also performed as a soloist with the school orchestra and in recital with the pianists Marija Dokuzova and Danche Agapieva-Vasileva. During his studies in Novi Sad, he was a member of the Chamber Orchestra of the Music Academy, which was led by the eminent cellist Istvan Varga. The chamber orchestra performed regularly at festivals in Budapest and The Netherlands. As a participant of the seminar in Békéscsaba, Hungary, he performed as a soloist with the pianists Oscar Ritter and Vera Tot Horti, and later with the symphony orchestras of Vojvodina and Subotica.

In 1994/95 he was accepted as the First French Horn player of the orchestra of the opera of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad. At the same time, he also worked as the first French horn of the Subotica Philharmonic and the Vojvodina Philharmonic in Novi Sad, where he stayed until 1999. He is a permanent member of the Macedonian Philharmonic since 2001. Aleksandar is a member of a brass quintet since 2005 and a member of the Skopje Quintet since 2007, performing throughout Macedonia and abroad. In 2011, he organised the first international seminar for French horn, trumpet and chamber music in Dojran, attended by numerous participants from Macedonia and abroad. The seminar later included the flute. In 2020, the Summer Music Camp Strumica, held its 10th edition.

Aleksandar likes gardening, fruit growing, bee keeping, fishing and hunting, and loves cooking, preparing traditional recipes and creating his original ones.

“Even though I do not come from a musical family, music became a part of my every pore since I was a child. Instead playing with other children, I used to endlessly practice the guitar, which a received as a present for my 6th Birthday. The guitar is still in my possession as a dear memory from my childhood…”
